German Singer-Songwriter & Pianist Julian Moreen puts acoustic piano and electric guitar at the forefront of his characteristic sound, creating an atmospheric, yet driven soundscape that unfolds somewhere between folk music, modern jazz and indie rock. Paired with his expressive voice, his music is narrative, almost meditative at times, only to soon again “burst with the energy of a late summer storm” (German Newspaper BZ, 2018). A graduate of Berklee College of Music, he moved to New York and started soon to perform regularly at clubs in the city. In fall 2018, he went on his first Asia tour with his international band of Berklee alumni, playing over 20 dates in Malaysia, Singapore and Taiwan including national radio and news appearances, followed by a series of shows in Europe. He is currently in Germany working on his debut album, ready to hit the road soon again.
“Bursting with the energy of a late summer storm” comments German newspaper Badische Zeitung on the final show of German singer-songwriter and pianist Julian Moreen’s 2018 fall tour through Asia and Europe. More than twenty dates in Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Germany and Switzerland exceeded all expectations of audiences and critics alike. Putting acoustic piano and electric guitar at the forefront of his characteristic sound, he creates an atmospheric, yet driven soundscape that unfolds somewhere between folk music, modern jazz and indie rock. Paired with Julian Moreen’s expressive voice, his music is narrative, almost meditative at times, only to soon release an outburst of energy and drive.
The common theme of his songwriting is that of storytelling. Musically and lyrically, his songs take listeners on an “often melancholic, yet optimistic” journey, looking at the world the way it is, but with the glass always half full. Here, his poetic lyrics build on beautiful melodies interweaved with subtle harmonies, world rhythms and vibrant grooves, while always leaving room for improvisation by the unique voices of his stellar band.
A native of Germany, Julian Moreen moved to the United States soon after high school when he received a scholarship to study piano at Berklee College of Music. Here, he refined his artistic vision, collaborated with artists from various genres, started performing his music along the East Coast and met the musicians of his current international band of Berklee alumni. After graduation, the next natural step was to move to New York with his bandmate, Malaysian guitarist Andrew Cheng, where he soon found himself working in the city’s music scene as front and sideman, performing at venues of all kinds and sizes.
After the great success of his first Asia tour in 2018, he is now in Germany working on his debut album, ready to hit the road soon again.
